Southern Lord is a record label founded in the US in 1998 by Greg Anderson of Goatsnake fame. It is notable of releasing groundbreaking albums under a wide spectre of genres ranging from black metal, doom, extreme metal, to hardcore punk. Initially, the label intended to specialize in the experimental metal scene, precisely revolving around doom metal, stoner rock, and drone metal subgenres, but the label then expanded in variety and included artists from the black metal, hardcore punk, and crust punk subgenres as their rosters. Some of the most notable artists on the label include Sunn O))), Sleep, Pelican, Earth, and Goatsnake.
